Lila Sciences is introducing the world’s first scientific superintelligence platform for life, chemical, and materials sciences.

We’ve been building behind the scenes for about three years within the labs of Flagship Pioneering, attracting world-class talent, partners, and investors. We are honored to announce $200 million in seed capital to fuel our mission to build scientific superintelligence to solve humankind’s greatest challenges.  

In science, we dream, model, hypothesize, experiment, interpret results, and repeat. We seek truth. Today, artificial intelligence is mastering existing knowledge. In science, AI trained on millions of scientific papers, genetic sequences, and chemical structures can predict protein structures and model complex systems. But we believe there is more in the universe than what is on the internet. 

At Lila, we are building systems to allow AI models to conduct every step of the scientific method, offering the potential to radically increase the intelligence, speed, and scale of humankind’s ability to turn the wheel of science.

We call this technology Lila’s Autonomous Science platform. 

Over the last three years, Lila’s team and Autonomous Science platform have demonstrated performance in multiple domains that exceed human and existing AI-powered benchmarks, including:   

• LLMs with state-of-the-art reasoning capabilities on important scientific problems and scientific intelligence benchmarks; 
• Generation of optimal genetic medicine constructs that outperform commercially available therapeutics;   
• Discovery and validation of hundreds of novel antibodies, peptides, and binders for a broad range of therapeutic targets;    
• Generation of unique non-platinum group metals as catalysts in the production of green hydrogen at a fraction of the cost of current commercial catalysts; and    
• Discovery of a portfolio of world-class sorbent materials for carbon capture with better capacity, thermal stability, and kinetic binding than leading products

Lila has raised $200 million in committed seed capital from Flagship Pioneering, along with General Catalyst, March Capital, Altitude Life Science Ventures, ARK Venture Fund, Blue Horizon Advisors, Modi Ventures, State of Michigan Retirement System, and a wholly owned subsidiary of the Abu Dhabi Investment Authority (ADIA) to support the further development of the AI platform, autonomous labs, and infrastructure for rapid scaling.
